What is Applied Kinesiology?
Applied Kinesiology, or AK, is the foundation of my clinical practice. AK started in the 1960’s when Dr. George Goodheart noticed something very strange as he was working with the US Olympic team. When evaluating the quadriceps of an athlete, he observed a complete change in strength depending on where the man’s hands were on his body during the test. He found that the strong quad muscle he was working with would go completely weak when the athlete had his palm on his abdomen. It was so strange! Soon, Dr. Goodheart was investigating the dynamics of these muscular “inhibition” patterns and out of that was born what he called Applied Kinesiology.
Since that time an incredible amount of research has gone into developing AK into the system of healing that it is today.
In AK we recognize that every muscle in the body relates to an organ and every organ relates to an acupuncture meridian. Each muscle presents an entryway into a different aspect of the body’s systems and offers a way to evaluate and direct therapies as well as assess the need for them to begin with.
With this system, we essentially are able to establish a dialogue with any individual’s body, or what we call their “innate intelligence”. And through this language, incorporating various reflex points, acupuncture points, muscle weaknesses, thought patterns- basically anything that stimulates the nervous or energetic system- we can gather highly specific and actionable information for that particular person. Once this information is gathered, the practitioner can apply treatment directly and specifically to where it is needed. And in addition to the “language” AK affords us, it has also developed an extensive array of effective treatment protocols for almost any health condition you can imagine.
